Chapter 8: Switching foods without stomach upset
Change food gradually over seven to ten days. For the first few days, mix roughly one quarter of the new food with three quarters of the old, then increase the new proportion every couple of days. Sensitive cats need an even slower pace. If diarrhoea or vomiting appears, drop back to the previous ratio and wait before pushing on again. A cat that stops eating completely for more than a day needs a clinic visit, because prolonged fasting risks liver trouble.
