Chapter 6: Flat-faced breeds and the heat
Brachycephalic breeds such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, and Shih Tzus are popular in Malaysian homes, but their shortened airways make breathing harder in humid weather. Avoid walking them during midday heat, keep them indoors with fans or air conditioning, and watch for excessive panting or blue-tinged gums. Never leave any dog in a parked car, even briefly. If you live in a hot lowland area, seriously consider whether this type of breed can cope comfortably.
