Chapter 1: Types of Pet Food Brands — What's Out There?
Broadly, you will meet four kinds of brands in Malaysia. First, large international "science-led" manufacturers that run their own feeding trials and produce both everyday and prescription diets. Second, boutique "natural" brands, often imported from Canada or New Zealand, marketed on high meat content and minimal processing. Third, local and regional brands, many manufactured in Malaysia or neighbouring countries, offering affordable everyday feeding. Fourth, treat and canned ranges that sit alongside a main dry food. Each category has genuine strengths and trade-offs. Imported brands may face long shipping and storage in hot warehouses; local brands may have less published research but fresher stock and easier availability during monsoon flooding or supply disruptions. Knowing which category a brand belongs to helps you judge its claims sensibly rather than by packaging alone.
