Chapter 10: Spaying and neutering: what beginners should know

Spaying or neutering removes the reproductive organs, which helps control the local stray population and lowers the risk of uterine infections and certain tumours. Most Malaysian clinics perform the surgery around six months of age, and your vet will check your pet's health and vaccination status first. Expect a short anaesthesia, a few days of restricted activity, and a follow-up visit to remove stitches. Keep your pet indoors and away from water during recovery, and watch the wound for swelling or discharge.
