Chapter 10: A Year-Round Care Calendar
Build a simple annual plan. Monthly: parasite prevention (heartworm, fleas, ticks) as prescribed; weigh your pet; check ears, skin, and paws. Quarterly: review diet and exercise with apartment-bound pets; deep-clean bedding and toys. Annually: veterinary health check and vaccination review — senior pets (over seven years) benefit from twice-yearly checks. Before monsoon season: stock food and medication, identify your nearest 24-hour vet, and prepare a flood plan for pets. During haze: limit outdoor exertion. After any flooding: watch for skin and stomach issues. Keep records of treatments and vet visits in one place. Adjust the plan with your vet based on your pet's age, breed, and health status — and remember that preventive care is always easier than emergency care.
