Chapter 4: Collars, harnesses and leashes

Pick a well-fitted collar with a breakaway safety clasp, or a harness if your pet pulls. In Malaysia's heat, check for chafing under the armpits and loosen the fit slightly so air can circulate. Nylon dries quickly after a rain shower, while leather can mildew if left damp.

Before walks, test that the buckle holds and attach a tag with a local contact number. Keep a spare collar at home, since sweaty necks and humid weather accelerate fraying of webbing and stitching.
