Chapter 6: Understanding litter box behaviour
For an advanced course, view litter avoidance as communication rather than disobedience. Cats may reject a tray that is too small, too dirty, scented with strong cleaners, or located near a noisy washing machine. Medical causes such as urinary tract inflammation should be ruled out first, especially in Malaysian humidity where bacteria thrive. Provide one tray per cat plus one extra, scoop daily and place trays away from food and water areas. Sudden changes often signal stress or illness.
