Chapter 9: Parasites, skin red flags and when to see the vet
Fleas thrive in warm, humid housing and can show up even in indoor-only cats, so part the fur during grooming and look for tiny black specks or flea dirt, especially along the back and at the base of the tail. Watch for excessive scratching, bald patches, scabs or a sudden dull coat, and never try to treat a heavy infestation with products meant for another animal. Schedule a check-up with your local vet for parasite prevention, and book an earlier visit if skin sores appear or the coat changes quickly.
