Chapter 10: Litter boxes in flats and condos

Many Malaysian families live in high-rise apartments, so the litter box often ends up on a balcony, in the utility yard or inside the bathroom. Shield it from direct afternoon sun and rain, and use a litter mat or a box with a flap to keep granules off tiled floors. Just make sure the cat cannot slip through balcony railings or bolt out the door. In landed homes, the garage or back yard is popular, but check that the spot stays dry during the monsoon and is not shared with ants, cockroaches or stray animals. A box near the laundry area usually works best, since it is easy to sweep and easy to monitor daily.
