Chapter 6: Storing food in a tropical climate

Heat and humidity speed up rancidity, so an open bag of kibble can go stale well before its printed date. Keep the food in its original bag inside an airtight container, place it off the floor in a cool dry cupboard, and never leave it on a sunny balcony or in a parked car.

Check regularly for a greasy smell, mould or tiny beetles, which turn up often in tropical warehouses. Buy sizes your dog can finish within a few weeks, note the batch number, and throw away any food that smells off instead of risking an upset stomach.
