Chapter 7: Daily hydration and water habits

A dog needs roughly 50 to 60 millilitres of water per kilogram a day, and more when the humidity climbs or after a walk. Offer several bowls around the house, wash them daily, and refresh the water often, because algae and slime build up fast in our climate.

A few ice cubes or a splash of low-sodium broth can tempt a fussy drinker, but skip sports drinks made for humans. If your dog suddenly drinks far less or far more than usual, book a vet visit to check the kidneys and urinary tract.
