Chapter 9: Transitioning Between Brands — Go Slowly
Sudden food changes are a common cause of vomiting and diarrhoea in Malaysian pets, so transition over seven to ten days. Start with about a quarter of the new food mixed into three-quarters of the old, and increase the new proportion every two to three days. Watch stool quality, appetite, and energy; if diarrhoea or vomiting appears, slow down or pause. In hot, humid weather, mix only what your pet will eat in one sitting so the new food does not spoil in the bowl. Keep fresh water available, and avoid changing food during stressful events like moving house, boarding, or a vet visit. If your pet is on a prescription diet, do not switch without veterinary guidance. Record what you fed and how your pet responded — it helps your vet if problems arise.
