Chapter 7: Freeze-Dried Fresh Food — Nutrition and Use
Freeze-drying removes moisture from raw or cooked ingredients at low temperature, leaving light, shelf-stable pieces that rehydrate with water. For Malaysian owners, the appeal is obvious: no freezer dependence, easy storage in humid conditions, and convenient travel portions. Nutritionally, freeze-drying preserves most nutrients well, but the food is concentrated — rehydrating properly is essential, and pets need plenty of fresh drinking water alongside. Some products are complete diets; others are toppers or treats, so read the label carefully. Use freeze-dried food as a full diet only if it is labelled complete and balanced for your pet's life stage. Once rehydrated, treat it like fresh food: serve promptly and discard leftovers, because warm, moist food spoils fast. Keep the dry product sealed — our humidity makes clumping and mould a real risk once the pack is open. Introduce it gradually, and check with your vet if your pet has special dietary needs.
