Chapter 8: The Claims Process Step by Step

Claims in Malaysia generally follow a similar path. At the clinic, tell staff you intend to claim and ask for an itemised invoice, diagnosis, treatment notes and receipts. Pay the bill first unless direct billing is arranged. Photograph all documents clearly, then submit within the policy's claims window through the insurer's app, portal, email or agent. Include your policy number, pet identification and bank details. Insurers may request additional records from your vet, so authorise your clinic to share them promptly. Keep a claim log noting dates, amounts and reference numbers. If a claim is rejected, ask for the reason in writing and appeal with supporting veterinary evidence if you believe it is wrong. Delays often come from missing documents rather than bad faith. Set aside time after each visit to file immediately, because monsoon-season emergencies and busy clinic queues make it easy to forget.
