Chapter 4: Monsoon flooding and water rescue

Monsoon season brings flooded streets and swollen drains, and a pet can be swept away in seconds. Keep cats and dogs indoors during heavy rain, and never let an animal wade through fast-moving water that hides open manholes, sharp debris and strong currents. If a pet falls into floodwater, reach it from a stable spot using a long pole, rope or towel. Do not jump in after it, as a panicking animal can easily pull a rescuer under.
