Chapter 7: Snake bites, bee stings and other animal encounters

Malaysia's forest edges and garden shrubs hide venomous pit vipers and cobras, and bites often happen at night when a pet steps on a snake. Keep the animal still and calm, since movement spreads venom faster, and carry it to the clinic instead of letting it walk. Remove collars near the bite and use a light bandage without tight wrapping. For bee and wasp stings, check the mouth and throat for swelling and watch closely for vomiting, which signals a severe reaction.
