Chapter 7: Shedding Season — Grooming for a Tropical Coat

In Malaysia, shedding is less about two dramatic seasons and more about constant, moderate shedding with peaks tied to heat and humidity. Regular brushing — several times a week for double-coated breeds — removes loose fur, reduces hairballs in cats, and lets you check skin and parasites. Bathe only as often as your vet advises; over-washing in humidity can worsen skin issues. Trim nails regularly, clean ears gently (especially floppy-eared dogs), and check paw pads. For double-coated breeds, never shave the coat down — it insulates against heat and protects skin. Keep grooming tools clean and dry between uses to avoid spreading fungi. If you notice bald patches, persistent scratching, or a dull coat despite good care, book a vet check; underlying skin or nutritional issues are common in tropical climates.
