Chapter 1: Do Pets Really Need Supplements?

Most healthy pets eating a complete, balanced commercial diet do not need supplements. In Malaysia, however, several local factors change the picture: year-round heat and humidity increase skin and coat stress, apartment-bound pets get less sun exposure, and some owners feed home-cooked or raw diets that may be nutritionally incomplete. Before buying anything, check whether your pet's main food already carries an AAFCO or FEDIAF complete-and-balanced statement. Puppies, kittens, pregnant animals, seniors, and pets on prescription diets have different needs. Ask yourself three questions: Is the diet complete? Does my pet have a confirmed health issue? Has my vet recommended a specific nutrient? Supplements are not harmless extras; excess vitamins and minerals can cause real harm. Your veterinarian, not the pet shop shelf, should guide the decision.
