Chapter 9: Choosing supplies that grow with your pet

Puppies and kittens outgrow collars, beds and feeding bowls within months, so favour adjustable items or buy the smallest size with room to extend. A harness with several adjustment points and a bed you can reposition against a wall both stretch their useful life.

Before buying anything, watch how your pet actually behaves. Some dogs prefer pushing a ball along the floor rather than carrying it, and many cats ignore pricey contraptions in favour of a cardboard box. Reassess your supplies every few months and donate what no longer fits.
