Chapter 9: Plateaus, food trials and vet follow-ups
When weight stops changing despite steady portions, revisit the measuring cup and treats before buying a new food. Use a kitchen scale, count every chew and table scrap, and recheck body condition every two weeks so small slips do not turn into several kilograms.
If itchy skin or repeated ear infections suggest food sensitivity, your vet may recommend a strict elimination trial with a hydrolysed or novel protein diet for about eight weeks, with absolutely nothing else given. Keep a simple food diary and bring it to each clinic visit, then adjust the plan together.
